Eliza Jane Graham Tye was born in, Whitly, Canada on December 23, 1832 and died in Oakland, California on August 10, 1893. She is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland in the old section which is no longer maintained, so it is not possible to locate her grave. On November 9, 1854 she married William N. Tye in Whitly, Canada. The portrait of Eliza Jane Graham Tye shown below was contributed by Steven Johnson who is descended from Edith Mary Johnson Tye, Walter L. Tye, William Hugh Tye and Eliza Jane Graham Tye.
The following information is copied from a hand written note made by my grandmother, Beatrice Mary Roberts Tye:
William N. Tye was born in England on August 7, 1833. He died in Oakland on May 30, 1877. He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland. The family moved from England to Canada (year unknown). On November 9th, 1854 he married Eliza Jane Graham in Whitly, Canada. They were married by a congregational minister, James T. Bryme, and there were three witnesses, Noble Graham, John Tye and James Hewitt.
William and Eliza Tye had two of their children born in Canada, John and Lillie Tye. Later they sailed around the Horn and settled for a time in San Francisco. Later they moved to a mining town in Trinity County, California called Evans Bar. This was in 1858. They had a daughter born there on November 5, 1860. She was the first girl to be born in this town and they closed the mines so the miners could celebrate. They eventually had six children. The six children were:
